What is what to do when you don't have a plunger?

When faced with a clogged toilet and no plunger, don't despair! Several alternatives can help clear the blockage.

  • Hot Water & Dish Soap: Pour a bucket of hot (but not boiling!) water into the bowl from waist height. The force can dislodge the clog. First, add a squirt of Dish Soap. The soap helps lubricate the clog, making it easier to move.

  • Baking Soda & Vinegar: Pour one cup of Baking Soda followed by two cups of Vinegar into the toilet bowl. Let it fizz for about 30 minutes, then flush.

  • Wire Coat Hanger: Straighten a Wire Coat Hanger and use the hooked end to carefully break up the clog. Be gentle to avoid scratching the porcelain.

  • Toilet Brush: While not ideal, a Toilet Brush can sometimes be used to agitate the water and dislodge minor clogs.

  • Epsom Salt: If a significant amount of Toilet Paper has caused the clogg, then add a little bit of Epsom%20Salt along with Hot Water and Dish Soap.

  • Wet/Dry Vacuum: A Wet/Dry Vacuum can be used to suck out the water and clog. Important: Ensure the vacuum is designed for wet use!

  • Chemical Drain Cleaners: As a last resort, you can try a Chemical%20Drain%20Cleaners. Important: Follow instructions carefully and be aware of potential damage to your pipes and environmental hazards. It may cause damage to some old pipes.

Important Safety Tips:

  • Wear Rubber Gloves to protect your hands.
  • Avoid using excessive force, as this can damage the toilet.
  • If none of these methods work, it's time to call a Plumber.
